Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has assured residents that the state would continue to maintain the status quo as the safest state in the country.
Sanwo-Olu, who spoke during the opening ceremony of the first session of the 36th synod of the Diocese of Lagos, Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) yesterday, said that the people of the state should find out what is happening in other states compared with the peace God has given us in the state, adding that there is every cause to appreciate Him for His protection and magnanimity while the state would continue to play its own part in the area of security.
President of the synod, in his charge, said the church acknowledges and celebrates Nigeria’s GDP’s modest growth by 3.84 per cent year-on-year in real terms in the fourth quarter of 2024, the strongest expansion in three years and surpassing World Bank and IMF targets.
He added that in 2025, the GDP currently stands at $379 billion according to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), which is projected by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to grow by over 4.17 per cent this year.
He, however, lamented that the average headline inflation that had peaked at 33.2 per cent in 2024, has dropped to 23.18 per cent in February 2025.
He also enjoined the government to move speedily with the willing partner states to ramp up agricultural production programmes, and as well work with the private sector to rapidly complete reforms and projects in the Power and Energy sector.
Sanwo-Olu, who gave the assurance that his government would not relent in the state’s infrastructural development, also called on the people of the state to be hygienic and stop throwing wastes inside the drainage system, which had been compounding the problem of flooding in the state.
He, however, promised the youths in the state of government’s efforts to continue to equip them with education on technology and Artificial Intelligence, urging students to take advantage of the Federal Government’s loan scheme.
