Youths in Ajiran community, Eti-Osa Local Council Area of Lagos State under the aegis of Ojomu Youth Forum (OYF) have appealed to the Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu to take the necessary action to unravel the cause of the death of a youth leader in the community, Sheriff Ishola Salami.

They described Salami’s death as tragic and demanded a probe.

They also tasked the government with the provision of basic amenities in their community and ensure there is no breakdown of order.

The youths who recently protested against lack of schools, hospitals and motorable roads in the community asked the government to caution their monarch over alleged excessive land sales, among other concerns.

The group made this known in a statement signed by its secretary, Wasiu Yekini Akinshemoyin.

The group said the attention of the indigenes of Ajiran and members of OYF was called to a statement issued by one Mr. Alex Omotehinse of an NGO demanding the probing of the death of Salami which it supported, but that tagging his death and making unnecessary popularity is what it would not accept.

Akinshemoyin said: “As a strong member of the Ojomu family, the death of Salami came as a shock, and nobody should be allowed, including the community monarch, the Ojomu of Ajiran land, Oba Tijani Akinloye to play a political card with it because we’re still grieving.”

“The land grabbing allegations levelled against our youth leader, Hameed Tajudeen, by the monarch and his allies is laughable and farcical.

Debunking the allegation, Akinshemoyin said the monarch has failed to facilitate development and progress to the community despite being on the throne for more than 30 years.

“There is no way someone who is a true member of a community will start grabbing land. This allegation is a distraction, a falsehood flying in the face of facts. If our calling for the progress of our community is now a crime, we are pleading with the Lagos State government to intervene,” he said.

“How can a community be stagnant when others are moving? There is no tangible progress in our community. The Lagos government should hold our leaders accountable.

“We plead with the government and the general public to plead with our Monarch and Alhaji Yekini Bakare to address all issues raised rather than resulting to cheap blackmailing.

“I, Wasiu Yekini Akinsemoyin, I am a bona-fide indigene of Ajiran Town from the Semo Chieftaincy family of Ojomu royal family.

“Calling me a non-indigene is the imagination of a writer and his sponsors who are not indigenes of the community to but has continued siphoning the resources of Ajiran community.”
