Sanwo-Olu warns MDAs against haphazard devts in waterfront communities

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu

Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, yesterday, asked the Ministry of Waterfront Infrastructure Development, its Physical Planning counterpart, and the Lagos State Building Control Agency to stamp out haphazard building and physical developments around the waterfront communities in Lagos.

Speaking yesterday, when he led members of the state executive council to waterfront communities in Amuwo Odofin and Ojo local councils, Sanwo-Olu said the tour of the areas revealed that the state had enormous opportunities in the corridor, especially for tourism.

Sanwo-Olu warned that the state government would not tolerate haphazard development along the waterfront communities, as the state government would do all within its authority to preserve waterfront infrastructure for tourism and other developments.

As a bold step towards ensuring sanity around Ilashe and Ibeshe, the governor said the Ministry of Waterfront Infrastructure Development, the Ministry of Physical Planning, and Lagos State Building Control Agency would be returning to the communities.

Sanwo-Olu further said that his administration was committed to harnessing the tourism potential around waterfront communities to ensure a win-win situation for all stakeholders through the provision of infrastructure to aid the process.

The governor further said the state government would ensure that life fully returns to the visited communities by connecting the communities to the national grid, reason Eko Disco officials were part of the tour.

During the tour, an electricity substation was handed over to the disco so that the communities could be energised for connectivity to homes.

The governor also stated that basic amenities that would make life more livable for the locals and other residents of the areas would be provided by the state government, aside from those that would drive the tourism potential of the area.

On the tour with the governor were the Commissioners for Waterfront Infrastructure Development, Mr Dayo Alebiosu Bush; his tourism counterpart, Toke Benson-Awoyinka; the Chief of Staff to the governor, Tayo Ayinde, and heads of agencies.
