Saraki urges CCT to fix hearing for March 11
THE Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) yesterday said the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, had sought the rescheduling of his hearing fixed for Thursday, March 10, 2016 to Friday, March 11, 2016.
A statement signed by Head, Press & Public Relations, CCT, Ibraheem Al-hassan, said Saraki, who is standing trial on his alleged false declaration of assets, had through his lead defence counsel, Kanu G. Agabi (SAN), sought the rescheduling of the hitherto fixed date.
Al-hassan said that the request, in a letter signed by Agabi dated February 26, 2016 with the title Re: Charge No. CCT/ABJ/01/2015- FRN V Dr. Olubukola Abubakar Saraki, was forwarded to the tribunal and addressed to the Chief Registrar of the CCT.
The letter states: “I write as lead counsel to the above defendant to apply that the matter which is now scheduled to come up on March 10, 2016, subject to the convenience of the honourable tribunal and learned counsel for the prosecution, be taken on March 11, 2016 due to my earlier and urgent commitments in other courts on March 10, 2016.
“I will sincerely appreciate the indulgence of the tribunal to accommodate me in this way. We apologise for the inconvenience caused to the honourable tribunal and other learned counsel.”
