Saudi Arabia Crown Prince and Prime Minister, His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud, has announced the launch of King Salman Gate, a multi-use development project in the Holy City of Makkah designed to transform pilgrim experience.
Spanning 12 million square meters of Gross Floor Area, adjacent to AlMasjid AlHaram, the project represents a major milestone in Makkah’s ongoing development and urban renewal. It is set to become a global model for modern city planning, blending functionality, spirituality, and heritage preservation.
According to bin Salman, who is also the Chairman, Board of Directors, RUA AlHaram AlMakki Company, King Salman Gate will significantly enhance access to AlMasjid AlHaram, elevate service standards, and enrich the overall experience of visitors and pilgrims, aligning with the objectives of the Pilgrim Experience Program under Saudi Vision 2030.
Strategically located near the Grand Mosque, the mixed-use destination will feature residential, hospitality, commercial, and cultural components, with capacity for about 900,000 indoor and outdoor prayer spaces. The development will also integrate seamlessly with public transportation networks, ensuring convenience and comfort for pilgrims and residents alike.
In addition to its modern infrastructure, King Salman Gate will preserve and develop approximately 19,000 square meters of heritage sites, paying tribute to Makkah’s cultural and architectural legacy. The project aims to harmoniously blend the city’s rich Islamic heritage with contemporary urban design, creating a distinctive environment that reflects both tradition and progress.
By 2036, the development is expected to generate more than 300,000 jobs contributing to the Kingdom’s broader economic diversification and growth goals under Vision 2030.
King Salman Gate is being developed by RUA AlHaram AlMakki Company, a Public Investment Fund (PIF) enterprise dedicated to advancing urban development around the Grand Mosque.
The company has pledged to implement sustainable practices and innovative solutions that enhance the quality of life for residents and visitors, while safeguarding Makkah’s spiritual and cultural essence.
