Experts in the education sector have declared that school and talent are never enough to inculcate in a child all it takes to be successful in life.

Experts in the education sector have declared that school and talent are never enough to inculcate in a child all it takes to be successful in life.

They said this at the first edition of Union Bank’s annual education fair, ‘edu360’ themed ‘Investing in the Future’.

In an open section tagged ‘Is your child a star?’ panelists described the child’s talent as only a means to an end not the end in itself.

Mary Agbu, the executive director of Multi- Plan Pathway, a premier access and tutorial college that provides pre-university course and qualifications for intending tertiary students, emphasised the need for excellent character development of children by parents.

“The place of schools in building a child’s future is just secondary; the bunch of work lies in the hands of the parents at home.

“Parents must fight to hold the hands of their kids in making lifetime decisions, and that includes helping them find a balance between school work and spending quality time building their characters at home,” she said.

Still on talent, award-winning spoken word artiste, Bikiya Graham-Douglas, said that talent could only set on the race, but that without hard work, a child would not win the prize.
