SDP will check challenges in health sector, says Omisore

Standard-bearer of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Senator Iyiola Omisore, has pledged to revive the health sector, if elected.

He gave the promise in a chat with journalists in Osogbo, shortly after a debate organised by the national body of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), led by Dr. Francis Faduyile.

He said he would provide the necessary requirements to meet the benchmark of the World Health Organisation (WHO).

Omisore stressed that he would restore effective medical services in public hospitals and clinics, to cater for the health and welfare of residents.

Governorship candidate of the Alliance for Democracy (AD), Mr. Olugbenga Akintola, deputy governorship candidate of the Action Democratic Party (ADP), Prof. Adeolu Durotoye also attended the debate.

He said: “We have to tackle the health sector in Osun. I will do everything possible within my reach as governor of the state to ensure that I improve the quality of health service.

“This would start from the medical personnel, including the paramedical workers, and provision of equipment, effective administration of charges and the fees payable by patients.”

Omisore promised to give priority to medical personnel, facilities, adequate drugs and fees’ payment.

He explained that the administration of fees would be moderated to make medical services assessable to all, in line with WHO’s standard of ratio of doctors to patients.
