S’East monarchs’ council chair denies collecting bribery for open grazing
The Chairman of the South East Council of Traditional Rulers, who is also the Chairman of the Imo State Council of Traditional Rulers, Ezeimo Emmanuel C. Okeke, has denied the allegation against monarchs in the geo-political zone of collecting money from the Fulani herdsmen to be allowed open pasturing/grazing in the zone.
Okeke, who is the Ezeudo 11 of Amaikeke ancient Kingdom, Orlu, denied the allegation in a statement issued at the weekend in Owerri. He said that the allegation is false, and a deliberate attempt to confuse, and incite rebellion against the royal fathers until it is substantiated.
The statement reads: “I feel highly compelled to rise to the occasion and react to the dangerous and highly destructive misinformation that filtered into the media space through a TikTok social media content orchestrated by a Fulani herdsman who alleged that the herders have always paid huge sums of money to Igbo traditional rulers before they gain access to our forests to graze their cattle whenever they plan to stay over longer period.
This allegation is so bogus and exaggerated, as its mischievous intent can’t be hidden.”
