A security guard, Abe Awobifawo, who allegedly attacked two brothers with machete cutting off the right thumb of one of them, was on Friday brought before an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

Awobifawo, 32, of Glory Estate, Ifako in Gbagada area of Lagos, is facing a two-count charge of causing grievous harm and wounding.

The offence was committed on Jan. 15 at Glory Estate, Police Prosecutor Ihiehie Lucky told the court.

He said the incident was reported at Ifako Police Station that following a misunderstanding the accused went into the room and brought out a machete to attack one of the victims, Steven Erondu.

“Awobifawo cut off Steven’s right thumb, his leg and stabbed him in the stomach with part of the intestines coming out.

“Steven’s younger brother, Isreal, came to his rescue and grabbed the accused and used the same machete to cut him on his back and right hand before people came to save the situation.

Ihiehie told the court that Steven is lying critically ill in the hospital, while Isreal was able to appear in court with injuries.

The offences contravened Sections 243 and 244 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty.

The Magistrate, Mrs O. Sule-Amzat, deferred the bail application of the accused because one of the victims was still lying critically ill in the hospital.

She ordered that the accused should be remanded in prison and adjourned the case to Feb. 6.
