The Senate has confirmed the appointment of the newly appointed Chairman of the National Pension Commission, PenCom, Opeyemi Agbaje. Deputy Senate President, Jibrin Barau, who presided over the proceedings yesterday, read out the name of Agbaje alongside other national commissioners of the newly constituted board of PenCom.
They include Hafiz Mohammed Kawu (Commissioner Technical representing the North West), Samuel Chigizie Nwandu (Inspectorate) representing South-East, Charles Efe Sylvester Emukowate (Finance) representing South-South, and Bello Abubakar Malabu (Administration) representing North-East.
Chairman of the Senate Committee on Establishment and Public Service, Cyril Oluwole Fasuyi, had earlier read out the names of the nominees. The confirmation followed the Senate’s consideration and adoption of the report presented by the committee.
Meanwhile, Barau, after the confirmation, thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for “nominating those outstanding Nigerians to occupy the offices.”
“We are confident that they would add value to this agency,” he said.
Agbaje, who until his appointment was the Chief Executive Officer of RTC Advisory Ltd., is a banker and lawyer. He was Chairman of the Ogun State Security Trust Fund.
Agbaje, a seasoned policy analyst, had been a notable Nigerian newspaper columnist, television presenter on policies with his programme, The Policy Council. He is also the author of many books. Agbaje is also a faculty member at the Lagos Business School.
