New DG underscores efficient procurement
The Senate, yesterday, confirmed Capt. Chris Ona Najomo as the Director General of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) following the adoption of the report presented by the Senate Committee on Aviation during plenary.
Presenting the report, the Chairman of the Aviation Committee, Senator Buhari Abdulfatai (APC-Oyo), stated that after a thorough screening process, the committee found Najomo highly qualified for the role due to his extensive experience and remarkable contributions to the aviation sector.
He urged the Senate to endorse the committee’s recommendation for Najomo’s confirmation.
In support of the nomination, Senator Mohammed Monguno (APC-Borno) highlighted the nominee’s impressive resume and noted that no adverse security reports were received from any of the security agencies.
Monguno encouraged his colleagues to approve Najomo’s appointment.
Following deliberations, the Senate unanimously confirmed Najomo as the substantive Director General of the NCAA.
The Senate also confirmed three nominees for positions within the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), following President Bola Tinubu’s recommendations.
The confirmations came after the presentation of a report by the Senate Committee on Electoral Matters, chaired by Senator Alli Sharafadeen.
The confirmed nominees are Tukur Abdulrazaq, National Electoral Commissioner representing the North West; Prof Sunday Nwambam Aja, National Electoral Commissioner representing the South East; and Saseyib Feyijimi Ibeyemi, appointed as Resident Electoral Commissioner for Ondo State.
MEANWHILE, Najomo has said the future of Nigeria’s aviation sector will depend on the ability of the authority to implement a procurement system that is efficient, transparent and aligns with global best practices.
He said that by embracing due process and procurement best practices, Nigeria could fully align with the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritised economic transformation and good governance, and the minister’s five-point agenda, which emphasises optimising revenue generation for the Federal Government.
Najomo, who was represented, yesterday in Lagos at a Symposium on Understanding Procurement Process for Optimum Organisational Performance, urged all stakeholders in the aviation sector to remain committed to the principles and work collectively towards a future where procurement would serve as a catalyst for growth, innovation and national progress.
