FOLLOWING his victory at the Appeal Court in Abuja and his victory again in the March 28 National Assembly election, Senator – elect, David Umaru representing Niger East Senatorial District has promised to keep all his campaign promises to the people.

He also promised to work twice as hard to keep the trust bestowed on him by the people of the zone insisting that he will not just be their senator but their champion.

Before his victory at the polls last week, Umaru had been declared winner of August 2014 by-election for the senatorial district by an Abuja court after his earlier victory at the election petition tribunal was challenged by the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) candidate, Dr. Zagbayi Shem Nuhu .

In an interview with Journalists in Minna at the weekend ,Umaru said his victory was the collective voice of the people, adding that “I will live their lives and feel their pains.

“By voting for me, the people have chosen to share their hopes and dreams with me. They have decided that it is safe to put their faith in my ability to fight for them. I want them to know this: I will not just be their Senator ; I shall be there champion”, he said.

The Senator elect who had contested governorship election twice in the state pointed out he had come a long way with Niger state electorate since 2007, stressing that “at every election since then , they have been short-changed, but they have kept faith and persevered believing that change is possible and truth will prevail. Today we are singing a new song, a song of victory”.

He urged the people to cultivate a new spirit of patriotism and of service and responsibility while promising to provide a leadership that inspires and of accountability.

He however reminded the people he alone cannot bring about the change.

“But we must all roll up our sleeves and be prepared to make sacrifices, ready to work harder and be willing to look not only after ourselves but after each other”, he said.

While promising to attract federal presence to the constituency, he assured that he will interact frequently and freely with the constituents towards initiating , proposing or supporting legislations that will address the problems of the constituency.
