Senator Musa awards scholarships to 100 medical students from Niger

Senator Mohammed Sani Musa, representing Niger East Senatorial District, has awarded fully funded scholarships to 100 students from the district to study medical and allied health sciences in India.

The beneficiaries are enrolled in programmes such as medicine (MBBS), pharmacy, nursing, medical laboratory science, radiology, physiotherapy, and public health at recognized institutions.

The initiative, according to the senator, is aimed at addressing the shortage of healthcare professionals in the district, with graduates expected to return to strengthen local hospitals and serve their communities.

The lawmaker said he has also commenced the construction of two 50-bed hospitals in Sarkin Pawa (Munya LGA) and Kuta (Shiroro LGA).

“Each hospital will have laboratories, maternity and pediatric wards, surgical theatres, emergency units, and staff quarters. The facilities are expected to also serve as training hubs for returning medical graduates,” Musa said while addressing contituents in Niger at the weekend.

“Another 100 students from Niger East are currently studying science, technology, and engineering courses in China, including artificial intelligence, robotics, renewable energy, data science, civil engineering, and mechatronics.

“We have also rolled out empowerment schemes across the senatorial district. Thousands of constituents have received vocational tools such as tricycles, motorcycles, sewing machines, deep freezers, clippers, and generators.

“About 2,868 people also benefited from a ₦143 million financial intervention, receiving ₦50,000 each, while youths were supported with starter packs for small-scale businesses. Farmers were also provided with fertilizers, irrigation equipment, and spraying machines.

“I have also supported education at the grassroots by paying NECO and JAMB fees for thousands of students, assisting undergraduates with registration costs, and providing financial support to over 1,000 students in tertiary institutions.”

The senator noted that he has also facilitated the construction of classroom blocks, ICT centres, youth centres, rural roads, boreholes, solar street lights, transformers, market stalls, and sports facilities, including a mini stadium in Minna and another under construction in Kuta.
