The legal team representing Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has raised concerns over what it described as a troubling pattern of selective justice, following the filing of criminal charges against the senator by the Federal Government.

In a statement issued by her counsel, Uju Nwoduwu, the team disclosed that Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan had submitted 12 separate petitions between March and May 2025. These petitions addressed serious allegations, including cyberstalking, threats to life, defamation, and an alleged assassination plot. According to the legal team, none of these petitions has been acted upon by the Nigeria Police Force or other relevant security agencies.

“The public expects law enforcement and prosecutorial bodies to uphold fairness, the rule of law, and impartial justice in all matters involving her,” the statement read.

The lawyers expressed concern that while the senator’s complaints remain unaddressed, counter-allegations from individuals named in her petitions — including Senate President Godswill Akpabio and former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello — were swiftly acted upon, leading to criminal charges against her.

“This selective response raises deep concerns about biased enforcement of justice,” the statement noted.

The legal team highlighted that among the unresolved petitions were grave incidents such as the abduction and attempted assassination of one of the senator’s protocol officers.

Although Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan is currently out of the country on personal engagements, her legal representatives confirmed that she has acknowledged receiving official communication regarding the charges and intends to appear for arraignment once a date is set.

“She remains fully committed to due process,” the statement affirmed, commending public voices who have questioned what the legal team described as “an extremely curious criminal charge.”

The statement concluded with a renewed call for impartial investigations into all outstanding petitions and a firm demand for justice to be applied evenly, regardless of status or political affiliation.
