SERA awards hold in Lagos

The tenth edition of SERA awards, organised to promote corporate social responsibility and sustainability in Nigeria, is set to hold on Friday with over 50 companies nominated in 26 categories.

The tenth edition of SERA awards, organised to promote corporate social responsibility and sustainability in Nigeria, is set to hold on Friday with over 50 companies nominated in 26 categories.

The 2016 finalists for the awards which started in 2007 include ExxonMobil, Shell, Nigerian Breweries, Friesland Campina, MTN, Diamond Bank, Guardian Newspaper and Channels Television.

Six companies were nominated for the awards’ biggest prize, the Most Socially Responsible Company. They include Investec Bank, Exxon Mobile, Lafarge Africa, Safaricom, Nigerian Breweries and MTN Foundation.

Other categories to watch out for are Best Company in CSR/Sustainability in Africa (West Africa), Best Company in CSR/Sustainability in Africa (East Africa) and Best Company in CSR/Sustainability in Africa (Southern Africa).

Seven companies were nominated in the Best Company in CSR/Sustainability in Africa (West Africa) category. The companies are UBA, Shell, Exxon Mobil, Lafarge Africa, Procter, MTN and Gamble and Nestoil. Only three companies – ABSA Bank, Investec Bank and Netcare were nominated in the Best Company in CSR/Sustainability in Africa (Southern Africa) category while Safaricom, TULSA, Solar Freedom Africa and East Africa Breweries are the only company in the Southern Africa category.
