A 61-year-old man, Matins Adeshina, who allegedly obtained N600,000 on the pretext of selling a cold room, on Tuesday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

Adeshina, who resides in Dopemu area of Agege, Lagos, is facing a two-count charge of obtaining money under false pretenses and stealing.

At his arraignment, Prosecutor Eranus Nnamonu told the court that the sexagenarian committed the offences sometime in February 2011 at home.

Nnamonu, an ASP, said the accused had in February 2011 advertised for sale a cold room located on Dopemu road, Agege.

“He obtained the sum of N600, 000 from one Mr Ibrahim Yakubu, who indicated interest to purchase the property.

“Adeshina showed the complainant a 20-feet container that had been converted to a cold room to store foods.

“The complainant was satisfied with what he saw and paid Adeshina N600, 000.

“Yakubu has, however, been unable to take possession of the cold room he paid for since 2011, as some other individuals claimed to own the cold room,’’ Nnamonu said.

The offences contravened Sections 285 and 312 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The Magistrate, Abimbola Komolafe, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case to June 4 for mention.
