HUMAN rights activist and senator representing Kaduna Central Senatorial Zone, Shehu Sani, has adopted 60 children during a visit to Adonai Orphanage Home, Kaduna, pledging to take over their education and upbringing.

Sani challenged Nigerian leaders and other privileged individuals to invest on the education and welfare of the less privileged in the society.

He made this known when he paid a visit to the orphanage to present food items for the Christmas and New Year celebration.

The senator said though they are orphans, they deserve a future like every other child, adding, “we own it to them; to support them and make their lives useful and beneficial to the society.”

According to him, “what we can do is to give their lives hope, and to make it possible for them to realise their dreams. These are all handsome and beautiful children, when you see their faces you remember the ones you have at home.”

He added that: “We should also be aware that any child can fall into this circumstance, so as a senator representing this zone, I formally adopt these children as my own, and we will send support to this home quarterly to enable you feed them and take proper support of their education.

“I will also like to know if there are some of them who have completed their Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE). I will sponsor two children to China to study, so that these two will serve as beacon of hope to others who are willing to support.”

Continuing, he said: “The orphanage should give me two names, which must be those who are here that you know will make use of the resources that will be invested in their education.”

Senator Sani called on Nigerians who have the means to contribute and help orphans, adding that, “as orphans, their basic needs are food, clothing, shelter and education and we all owe them these.”

He commended the matron of the home, Evangelist Elizabeth Afuwape, for her commitment, saying, “she is rendering services to God.”

The matron, who was represented by Pastor Samuel Oyelowo, commended the senator for his kind gesture to the home.

She said Shehu Sani is the first senator in the state to visit the home since it was founded.

She pledged judicious use of resources donated to the orphanage, adding, “our major responsibility is to the survival of the children.”
