Vice President Kashim Shettima has urged Nigerians to remember President Bola Tinubu in their prayers as Muslims and Christians observe Ramadan and the Lenten season.

In a statement issued on Thursday by Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications, the Vice President appealed to the faithful across both religions to use the sacred period to seek divine guidance and strength for Tinubu as he navigates ongoing reforms and governance challenges.

Shettima said that beyond personal supplications, the concurrent observance of Ramadan and Lent offers an opportunity for collective intercession for national leadership, peace, and stability.

He specifically called on Nigerians to pray that God grants the President “wisdom, strength, and foresight to pilot the affairs of our great nation,” noting that spiritual support remains vital to effective leadership and national progress.

The Vice President also encouraged citizens to use the holy season to strengthen national unity and demonstrate practical compassion toward one another.

He described the period as a time not only for spiritual renewal but also for purposeful nation-building.

According to him, the sacred month demands more than ritual observance, urging Nigerians to actively engage in addressing the country’s challenges.

“Let us not only feed the hungry, but uplift the weary; not only give charity, but extend kindness; not only pray for peace, but work for justice. This is the true essence of Ramadan,” he said.

Senator Shettima described Ramadan as “a journey of the soul and a time for deep reflection, for self-purification, and for embracing the true essence of Islam, peace, patience, sacrifice, and service to humanity.”

He paid tribute to religious leaders across faiths, describing them as “the moral and spiritual compass of the nation,” and acknowledged their invaluable role in shaping Nigeria’s ethical foundation at a time when both major religious communities are engaged in solemn spiritual discipline.

The Vice President further called for sustained prayers for national stability, emphasizing the need to reinforce unity in the face of divisive forces.

“We must strengthen the bonds that unite us and reject the forces that seek to divide us,” he said.
