Shettima Swears-in Durkwa As New Deputy Governor
Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno State has sworn-in Alhaji Usman Mamman Durkwa as the new deputy governor to assist him in the task of rebuilding the state.
Swearing-in the deputy governor at the Government House Multi-Purpose Hall, Maiduguri, Shettima said that Usman has been always “tolerant and competent” in moving the state forward, despite the security challenges the people of the state had been facing in the last six years.
His words: “Some people may express disappointments over the ‘appointment and final swearing-in of my deputy, Alhaji Usman Durkwa, but he is very much competent and dedicated to move this state forward by rebuilding, reconstruction and rehabilitation of all the destroyed Boko Haram communities of Borno. I have made the choice of Durkwa, as my new deputy governor.
“This will pave the path of rebuilding and rehabilitating the destroyed communities, and make them a better place to live, in spite of Boko Haram insurgency that has claimed of our people’s lives and property.”
The governor also thanked President Muhammdu Buhari for stepping up the fight against Boko Haram insurgency.
Responding, Durkwa in his acceptance speech made before traditional and religious leaders, pledged to be loyal, dedicated and committed in working with Shettima.
“I promise to abide by the rules and regulations of this exalted high office of deputy governor of Borno State. I have taken the oath of office and allegiance to be dedicated and loyal to my governor, Shettima in moving the state forward, as we have several challenges to overcome to make it a better place to live.”
