Shiites demand release of their leader

Members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), Shiites, stormed major cities in the north to protest the detention of their leader, Sheikh Ibraheem El-Zakyzaky, as they demanded his immediate release by the Federal Government.
Besides, in Kaduna, where thousands of the Shiites were seen on protest match on the highways, armed policemen were also spotted keeping vigil to ensure that there was no breakdown of law and order.
But the armed police dispersed the protesters with teargas at Kofar Doka, Zaria, as one person was said to have been arrested by the police.
Meanwhile, the protest held in Kaduna metropolis ended peacefully, even though a contingent of mobile policemen followed the protesters.
Other towns, like Kano, Gusau, Yola and Potiskum witnessed unprecedented turnout of Shiites calling for the release their leader.
