The Islamic Movement in Nigeria (popularly known as Shitte Group) has alerted the Nigerian public of movements of unknown gunmen in Zaria, Kaduna State.

Shitte spokesman Ibrahim Musa, who made the disclosure in a statement, said the group had received credible reports that some unusual movements by certain unknown persons with dangerous weapons around the Sabon gari area of the city on Thursday, February 7 2019.

Musa, however, denied allegations by the Department of State Security (DSS) and the presidency that members of the movement were assembling to ensue violence before and during the Nigeria general elections.

“We wish to reiterate our already well known position that the Movement has a total abhorrence to violence under any guise,” Musa said.

“We therefore wish to completely dissociate ourselves from any plots to cause chaos and confusion, which we believe the security agents are bent on staging, through a series of false flag operations, all in our name.”

He assured the Nigerian public and the international community that Shittes were committed to peaceful coexistence between people of different religious, regional and tribal inclination as championed by its leader Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky.

In the statement,  Musa demanded the immediate and unconditional release of its leader Sheikh Zakzaky, his wife and other Shiattes who are still in detention since December, 2015.
