Six IYC leaders risk jail for alleged contempt
For alleged impersonation, contempt of court and criminal invasion of a radio station owned by a serving senator from Bayelsa State, six executive members of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) risk being committed to prison.
The affected persons, Chief Preye Agama, Jeremiah Owoupele, Saviour Olali, Jonathan Lokpobiri, Bristol Emmanuel and Wisdom Ikuli, have reportedly been parading themselves as factional leaders in alleged contravention to a court judgment upholding the Udengs Eradiri leadership of the group.
In the contempt charge filed sequel to his purported suspension by the sextet, Eradiri, while stating that the exercise contravened the IYC constitution, added that the ‘conspirators’ spurned the court order issued by Justice Y.E Ogola in 2015 affirming that his tenure ends in 2017.
He noted though that the group has its disciplinary mechanism, but, however, added that his recourse to court was a follow-up to the various petitions already written to security agencies on the activities of the ‘dissident’ youth leaders.
The organisation has been embroiled in crisis following the recent claims by the group of six suspending Eradiri and the spokesman, Eric Omare.
