Six residents of Pulka, a community in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State, were reportedly killed by suspected ISWAP terrorists while collecting firewood on Saturday.
According to Zagazola Makama, a security analyst, the armed assailants ambushed the residents who left their homes to collect firewood in Bokko-Ghide/Ngoshe bush around 4:30 pm on Saturday.
It was also reported that nine individuals were involved in the outing, while six of them were killed in the ambush, and the other three managed to escape by fleeing into nearby bushes.
Troops from Operation Hadin Kai later arrived at the scene and evacuated the injured to the General Hospital in Gwoza, where they were confirmed dead by a medical doctor.
The deceased were identified as Ibrahim Kursu (45), Malam Ahmadu (50), Abba Zake (35), Hawwala Zake (40), Bukar Umaru (38), and Ishaku Naga (50), all from Pulka, Gwoza LGA.
According to preliminary investigations, nine people were involved in the firewood collection. Three others, Bukar Alhaji (42), Wada Maina (50), and Adamu Idrissa, managed to escape into nearby bushes during the attack and have since safely returned to their families.
