A RECHARGE card seller from Iseyin in Oyo State, Mr. Adewale Yusuf, has called on well- meaning Nigerians to help him in raising the sum of N350, 000 to save the life of his six-year-old son, Kehinde Yusuf, who is suffering from a condition called hydrocephalus.

Yusuf, who came to The Guardian premises on Monday, said that his son has been suffering from the said condition since he was six months old and they have visited over 10 hospitals ever since. “My wife and I have sold all our properties to treat this condition,” he lamented.

According to him, Kehinde has been in and out of the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan since 2011, and the hospital management is demanding the sum of N 652,000 to complete treatment on him. “We have managed to raise N302,000 and a balance of N350,000 is needed for post-surgical treatment of Kehinde.”

He said, though his son had undergone series of surgeries, but the boy’s life is still in danger because of lack of early post surgical treatment, “he has started developing new conditions as a result”, Yusuf added.

Doctors at the UCH have also warned him that treatment has to commence on or before Friday, October 23, 2015, to avoid more critical conditions. Besides, Yusuf said he pays N500 everyday for bed space to keep his son in the hospital.

According to Medline Plus: “Hydrocephalus is the buildup of too much cerebrospinal fluid in the brain. Normally, this fluid cushions your brain. When you have too much, though, it puts harmful pressure on your brain.”

Recalling how the boy’s ordeal started, Yusuf said: “My son developed this condition in 2010, few weeks after the Chief Medical Director (CMD), Addo Awaye General Hospital, Iseyin Local Council of Oyo State (names withheld) treated him for fever by running a drip through his head.”

“The doctor accepted blame for the development of Kehinde’s condition, but said he could not do anything about it. All efforts to reach him subsequently proved abortive.”

“So I reported him to the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria and they promised he would be suspended, but I have not confirmed whether they’ve acted.”

“I am, therefore, appealing to Nigerians to support me and my family by paying any amount they can afford into this account,” he pleaded.
