The office of Human Rights Monitoring Agenda (HURMA Global Resource Initiative) has been assigned by Somolu Local Council to assist in managing the palliative programme for the area so as to ensure unbiased and effective distribution of the resources to truly worthy and deserving members of Somolu communities.
The Chairman of Shomolu Local Council, Abdul-Lateef Ashimi, just like his predecessor, recently contacted the Executive Director of Human Rights Monitoring Agenda (HURMA Global Resource Initiative), Comrade Buna Olaitan Isiak to handle the palliative programme for the local council.
The council, through the palliative programme, intends to share the amount of N50m among 500 Somolu residents who are poor and need assistance.
As a poverty alleviation programme, the scheme, both parties agreed, would be a continuous exercise so as to ensure spreading of the benefits to the general community without any compromise.
The invitation of HURMA as a foremost Human Rights and Anti-Corruption body to manage the palliative programme is, however, based on trust as demonstrated by the office in representing the true interest of the poor and oppressed members of the society.
Some similar community members with clean track records are also selected to form a palliative committee to work with HURMA office to assist in every way necessary.
At the first phase of the programme held at Senator Oluremi Tinubu Hall at Somolu Local Council Secretariat on October 30, 2025, the chairman shared #100k each to 500 members of the community who were presented by HURMA. Moreso, some party leaders who were initially aggrieved by the choice of a non-partisan body like HURMA to manage such a big project, expressed appreciation for the choice, which bridges all barriers and afterwards projects Somolu local council as a model for others across the nation.
In his remarks at the October palliative event, Comrade Buna Olaitan Isiak commended the LG Boss and his predecessor, Salawudeen Abdul-Hameed Dullar for giving a listening hear towards ensuring the best available for the poor masses.
“Our ultimate target is total emancipation of the oppressed masses from all forms of exploitation and oppression. We will, however, ensure we achieve the best within available networks, and on this, we shall continue to appreciate the Local Government Chairman, Abdul-Lateef Ashimi, as well as his predecessor, Salawudeen Abdul-Hameed Dullar, for giving a listening ear and commitment to serve the people.”
