South West hunters kick against online recruitment of Amotekun corps in Oyo

Related

South-West hunters have vowed to pull out of Amotekun in Oyo State if the state government insisted on online registration for interested applicants.

The local hunters, who spoke through their Chairman, Oba Nureni Ajijola Anabi, said the condition for recruitment should not be on academic qualification.

He said the hunters ought to be at the forefront of the security outfit because they know the all nooks and crannies in the forest more than any other group.

Oba Ajibola said: “We told them to focus more on the local people who know the forest very well. They told us to go and register online.

“What does academic qualification and online registration have to do with providing security for the people. If they insist on this, we will back out of the whole exercise.”

The Soludero hunters, who saw the move by the leaders to shut local hunters out of the whole exercise, however, pleaded with Governor Seyi Makinde to provide patrol vehicles and other logistics to make it easier for them to function more effectively.

“But, at times, some security men, for pecuniary gains, hinder our operations whenever we apprehend suspected bandits. At times, they prevent us from arresting them.

“We thank the new Commissioner of Police in Oyo, Mr. Nwachukwu Enwonwu, for effective policing. He has been of tremendous help.”

Meanwhile, efforts to speak with the Commandant of Amotekun in Oyo State, Col. Olayanju Olayinka, who is in charge of the recruitment exercise in the state, was not successful, as calls to his phone did not go through.
