Southeast Governors to Nd’Igbo: Stop lamenting alleged marginalisation

Southeast Governors yesterday, asked their people to stop complaining about the scheme of things in Nigeria, assuring them that they are determined to lead them out of their present economic woes and reposition the zone for greater development.

This is just as the Deputy President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu, declared that the zone remained a major player in the nation’s economic growth, stressing that the people should focus on realising those objectives.

Speaking during the Southeast Regional Economic Summit, which held yesterday, in Enugu, Chairman, Southeast Governors’ Forum and Ebonyi State helmsman, David Umahi, said the political leadership of the zone was working together to overcome the challenges.

He said the summit, the second since the present administration mounted the saddle was part of the efforts to unite the zone and explore avenues of economic integration and development, even as he stressed the need to harness the abundant natural and human resources in the region to enable it compete with others.

On his part, Ekweremadu lamented the impact of the civil war, saying that it was the greatest tragedy to the nation’s development, which hindered the nation from overtaking most developed nation’s of the world, especially with the Southeast reputed to be the fastest growing economy in the first republic.

“Southeast zone has a lot to give to the nation. If we work together, we can develop our roadmap to a great nation,” he said, expressing dismay that efforts of Southeast governors may not yield the expected results in the absence of the necessary legal framework.
