Academic and administrative activities have been halted at the Taraba State University (TSU).

This followed the decision of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) of the institution to tread the path of the academic staff, who earlier in the week, downed tools to press home their demands.

Announcing the withdrawal of their services yesterday via a statement, the state chairman of SSANU, Bitrus Joseph Ajibauka, explained that the action was necessitated by the alleged lukewarm attitude of both the state government and the university management towards their “overdue demands.”

The union claimed that it had been shortchanged and neglected by the management and state government.

The statement reads in part: “This is to notify the general public that the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Taraba State University Branch, has from today (yesterday) commenced a comprehensive and indefinite strike action. We have withdrawn our services to the Taraba State University, pending when our demands are addressed.

“This action is imperative because we have been shortchanged, neglected and left out by the university management and the Taraba State government for failing to address our demands.”

Recall that before embarking on their strike, the ASUU-TSU had lost many members to what it termed insensitivity on the part of the concerned authorities.
