State APC eulogises HID Awolowo
OGUN State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has condoled with the Awolowo family over the demise of their matriarch, Mama Hannah Idowu Dideolu Awolowo, describing her contribution to political evolution of Nigeria as unquantifiable.
In a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Sola Lawal, the party hailed the late wife of the Premier of old Western Region and Presidential candidate of the defunct Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN), Chief Obafemi Awolowo, for the staunch support given to her husband in the days of his struggles for Nigeria’s Independence, the First as well as the Second Republics.
The party said mama should not be mourned but celebrated because she lived a life worthy of emulation.
“Mama’s role in the home front and even on campaign grounds all through the days of Papa’s struggles for a new Nigeria was exemplary and a tonic that rejuvenated the late sage’s unwavering commitment for the nation’s independence and political evolution.
“Even in the days of Awo’s incarceration, HID’s support did not wane till his last days. She was indeed a pillar on which Awo launched his various salvo as an opposition leader,” the party stated.
Describing Mama Awolowo as one of the very few remaining old guards of democracy and popular rule, it said “although sired by Ogun State parents, her indelible mark adorned landscapes beyond the state, and one dare say, Nigeria.
“The progressive political family in Nigeria, in particular, will never forget her stoic support to her late husband, the sage and unarguable the father of political progressivism in the country, during the difficult period of post independence political turbulence of the 60s.
“Mama was a jewel of inestimable value to Awo, an icon of humanity to Ogun State and epitome of womanhood to the nation,” it said.
The APC prayed God to grant his children, the people of Ogun State and Nigerians the fortitude to bear the loss.
