Stay within your call, gospel star Tosin Bee advises gospel artistes

Top gospel star, Oluwatosin Adejumobi popularly known as Tosin Bee has advised other gospel artistes to stay within the mandate God Has given them and should not copy secular artistes many of whom are known for the lewd lyrics.

He gave this advice during an interview with oir correspondent, also calling for more collaborations anong gospel artistes and less of competition which presently obtains.

He said,.”Concerning the advice I have for other gospel artistes, I’ll say… Stay with what God has called you to do instead of following and hopping on trends.

“For the gospel genre to continue to grow, we need to have more collaborations and not competition. Also that Jesus only should be our message and not self projections.”

Tosin Bee noted that it is compulsory for one to be born again as a gospel artiste, as he stressed, “Definitely! The gospel of Christ is paramount. How can you sing about someone who you have not encountered or had an experience with? Salvation is key.”

The gospel star who said he had featured alongside big names such have been privileged to share the stage with gospel music greats the likes of Don Moen, Byron Cage, Kim Bureel, Jonathan Nelson, Kurt Carr, Sonnie Badu, Uche Agu, King Sunny Ade, Dr. Evangelist Ebenezer Obey Nathaniel Bassey, Chioma Jesus Tope Alabi and Tim Gidfrey, explained that his music talent “is a gene in the family.”

The Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye, Ogun State graduate of English Language said,”My music prowess dates back to his gene, my grandfather was known to be a very good singer.”

Talking about his humble beginning, Ogbomoso, Oyo State born-gospel music icon explained that he started out in music with the group known as ‘Da roots’, a 3- man music band which consisted of himself, Rumide and Sam. “We rocked all the western states of the country blessing people with a new style of music-ministration,” he added.

However, Tosin Bee said the group later disbanded due to individual career pursuit.

“It was at this point I decided to forge on and make a career out of music. Because of my large music vocabulary, my style of gospel music is a fusion of R n B, Hip-fuji, Jazz, Ewi (traditional yoruba chant) Black gospel which is why I think people from different parts of the world can flow with it.”

He said God Has been at work in his career, as he is shocked at times how far his music hs received acceptance and popularity.

“Sometimes I’m shocked at how my music has spread globally. A lot of times when I’m out of the country, foreigners from different races pull me aside and are usually like they know me, some go as far as singing my songs and I’ll be in utter shock.

“It’s all been God. People from different parts of the globe, non-English speaking countries, in fact, I hear testimonies as to how my music has been a huge blessing to them.”

Presently Tosin Bee said he has a lot of things in the works, as he revealed that he has just released an 8 track EP not too long ago and it’s doing amazingly well.

“I have songs ready to be released collaborating with top gospel artistes in Nigeria and outside of Nigeria,” Tosin Bee stated.

And where does he draw his inspiration from?
“I draw a lot of inspiration from God’s word. Also my knack for excellence pushes me to go all out.”

Tosin Bee noted that there are challenges in the industry, talking about challenges he faces, he listed finance and a sense of uncertainty.

“This is because the kind of music I do is somewhat different from the regular. I was afraid people may not really flow with it but God has shown himself mighty. It’s been from glory to glory. Always pushing me a notch higher,” he said excitedly.

Tosin bee still has a lot up his sleeves, stating that, “I kick-started the ‘Praise Unlimited’ tour last year and it has been amazing. I’ll be doing more of that, going from country to country spreading the gospel of Christ through music.

“I’ll also diversifying into other parts of music. In addition, I also have a music production studio. I’m also building a hub for creatives where you can come create content and also collaborate with like minds to birth something that will stand the test of time.”
