The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has told federal and state governments to stop “skittish attitudes” towards its legitimate demands, to avoid resumption of the suspended strike.

The Coordinator, Yola Zone, Reuben Jonathan, in a press conference yesterday in Yola, said the union was still in the dark over the Federal Government’s implementation of the May 2021 agreement.

“This lukewarm attitude and deliberate delay has triggered agitations from our members. The Federal Government has failed to honour its obligation after three months and counting,” he said.

The Yola Zone comprises six universities from Adamawa, Taraba, Yobe and Borno states.

On the controversial Integrated Payroll Personnel Information System (IPPIS), he said that since the ASUU-designed University Transparency and Accountability Solution (UTAS) has passed all integrity tests without any shortcoming by all Federal Government agencies involved, it must be implemented.

Jonathan pointed out that Nigeria’s education sector “is the most poorly-funded sector in recent times, despite that it is the pillar for the development of Nigeria.
