The presiding officer, Malam Aminu Sa’ad, gave the sentence after Obinna pleaded guilty to the one-count charge of theft.

Sa’ad, however, gave the convict an option of N15,000 fine.

Earlier the prosecutor, Insp Haruna Danlami, told the court that one Abbey Samuel of the same address had on June 8 reported the matter at the Zuba police station.

Danlami said Samuel told the police in his statement that the convict stole an Acer mini laptop belonging to the complainant from his room on the said date.

Samuel, according to the prosecutor, said the laptop was valued at N52,000.

The prosecutor said during police investigation, the said laptop was recovered in the convict’s possession.

Danlami said the offence contravened Section 288 of the Penal Code.
