The attack was carried out with a tricycle at about 7.15 a.m.
The National Emergency Management Agency and other rescue teams, according to police authorities, have evacuated the injured persons to hospital for treatment. They added that the bodies of victims were deposited at a hospital morgue for identification, before release for burials.

The Police Commissioner in the state, Mr. Aderemi Opadukun in a text message to The Guardian said: “There was an IED explosion at about 0700 hours today by the Welcome to Maiduguri Gate; and near the office of the State Department of Security Services (SSS) and El-Kanemi Theological College, Maiduguri.”

He said the suspects had wanted to target the Borno Express Motor Park, whose peak period was between the early morning hours of 7 to10 a.m.

On the bomb scare at Baga road, Opadukun said: “In BEWAC areas along Baga road, there was a bomb scare at about 9am this morning.
But it was discovered to be no explosive by our EOD unit mine. Investigation by the police is already in progress.”
