THE Sultan of Sokoto and President General of the Jama’atu Nasir Islam (JNI), Alhaji Muhammadu Abubakar Sa’ad (III), and the Emir of Zauzau, Dr. Shehu Idris have condemned Boko Haram insurgents for Tuesday’s bombing of innocent workers in Sabongari, Zaria, leading to the death of 26 of them.

Several others sustained severe injuries.

The Sultan of Sokoto in a statement yesterday, while urging Muslims to observe the Ramadan with piety, said: “We however use this medium to once again condemn in the strongest terms, the recent attack unleashed on innocent civil servants undergoing screening at the Sabongari Local Government secretariat, Zaria in Kaduna State.

“While wishing all Muslim faithful Allah’s pardon in these sacred days and after, we pray fervently for His benevolent acceptance of our Ramadan fast even as we urge all Muslims never to return to abominable acts after the Ramadan fast”.

Speaking in the same vein, Chairman of Kaduna State Council of Chiefs and the Emir of Zazzau, Dr. Idris condoled the families of the victims of the Sabongari suicide attack. Ahaji Shehu Idris, who conveyed his condolence during a press briefing in his palace yesterday, described the bomb attack on civil servants as unfortunate and unbearable.

He advised Nigerians to be very vigilant on the movement of people with questionable character and report them to the nearest authority for necessary action. “Zazzau Emirate has never witnessed such a disaster and hope such incident will not happen again”, he said, just as he prayed Allah to forgive those who lost their lives. He also wished the injured ones quick recovery.

Meanwhile, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has urged members of the public to help donate blood for treatment of the Zaria bomb blast victims that have been evacuated to the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital (ABUTH) Shika. Director General of NEMA, Alhaji Muhammad Sani Sidi said the request was urgent to help the victims that have lost a lot of blood in the attack.

In a statement by the Press Officer of the Agency, Mr. Manzo Ezekiel, the DG commended “the quick response in the evacuation of the victims and assured of the immediate support of NEMA in the deployment of medical consumables and drugs for their treatment in the hospital.” According to him, “26 lives were lost and 33 injured in the explosion.
