Sultan urges Muslims to search for new moon

As Muslims across the world prepare to mark the end of this year’s Ramadan fasting season, the Sultan of Sokoto and President General, Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has urged them to search for the new moon of Shawwal today.

As Muslims across the world prepare to mark the end of this year’s Ramadan fasting season, the Sultan of Sokoto and President General, Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has urged them to search for the new moon of Shawwal today.

The sighting of the moon terminates Ramadan fasting and marks the beginning of a new month of Shawwal.

For necessary confirmations, the Chairman, Sultanate Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, Prof. Sambo Wali, in a statement yesterday, has therefore provided some telephone numbers to report the sighting of the new moon.

Ramadan fasting is to be observed for a period of 29 or 30 days, as ordained by Allah (SWT)
