Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has been asked to provide more machines and personnel in rural communities in Rivers State to encourage residents to obtain their permanent voter cards (PVCs).

The advice came as more residents, especially youths, strive to obtain their PVCs ahead of the 2023 general elections.

A visit to some INEC PVC registration centres, along Water Lines shows long queues and delays, a situation which people fear may discourage the public.

It was against this backdrop that veteran Nollywood actress, Hilda Dokubo, yesterday, in Port Harcourt, called on INEC to provide more machines and personnel to address the challenge.

Dokubo, who is also the Executive Director of Centre for Creative Art Education (CCAE), said: “For the first time in my life, I see young people who are hungry to participate in governance, in deciding who their leaders will be.

“That is so encouraging because we have been on that battle of young people and women participating effectively, not just being represented but participating themselves. We have seen a huge turnout of young people across Nigeria but we have not witnessed INEC collaboration. They have extended the period of registration but have they increased the number of machines that we need?

“I am saying to INEC: we need more machines, we need more hands. More people are interested. It is not like before when only a few people come out.”
