
The Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development has inaugurated members of the Federal School Surveying, Oyo State governing council.
The Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa, who presided over the inauguration ceremony, charged new council members not only to improve the standards of the school but to showcase the successes recorded in the over 115 years of surveying education in Nigeria.
He noted that the immediate past council has laid a solid foundation for the continued academic growth of the school by paving the way for the incorporation of three new academic departments and courses in the school.
Dangiwa stressed that; the development should serve as a challenge to the incoming council to upgrade the status of the school.
While the minister assured the institution, headed by Dr Olayinka-Dosumu, that the Federal School of Surveying, Oyo would continue to receive the necessary support from the government, wants the council to make the school’s success and growth their priority.
He expressed satisfaction with the moral support the institution had been enjoying from the Oyo community and its environment since inception and hoped that the mutual understanding would continue perpetually.
The new governing council is being chaired by the Surveyor General of the Federation, Abdulganiyu Adebomehin, who assured the minister that his team would serve loyally, work diligently and act responsibly in the discharge of their duties in the interest of the institution.
He said that all members of the newly constituted governing council of the school considered it a rare privilege to be called upon to serve in this capacity.
He said: “We are aware and conscious of the fact that through the activities of the governing council, innovative ideas would enhance the growth and development of the school, its academic curricula and administration.
“The council will embrace any proposals emanating from the academic board and the management of the institution. We promise that the tremendous strides recently achieved in the fields of surveying and geoinformatics, cartography, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), photogrammetry and remote sensing, as well as computer science will be extended to other academic programmes.”
