Suspected dynamite explosion kills one in Niger

The Niger State Police Command has disclosed that there was an explosion of some suspected dynamites at Sabon-Pegi in Mashegu Local Government Area of the state on Sunday, January 26, 2025, at around 7:30 am.
The command spokesperson, SP Wasiu Abiodun, who disclosed this in a statement issued to newsmen in Minna, explained that the dynamites were reportedly kept in a residential area by one Yushau for a purported mining activity.
The statement also revealed that the explosion led to the unfortunate death of one Fatima Sadauki, while six others were injured and taken to the General Hospital, Kainji, for medical attention.

The incident affected about twelve houses in the area, and the Commissioner of Police, Niger State Command, CP Shawulu Ebenezer Danmamman, has ordered an investigation into the incident.
He added that the team from the EOD-CBRN unit has been dispatched to the scene for assessment. It is also noted that the said Yushau is currently at large.
Meanwhile, normalcy has been restored in the area while monitoring continues.
