AS violence continued in Borno State, nine suspected Boko Haram terrorists at the weekend attacked Ngorongoro Village near Kayamla on bicycles and killed six people by slitting their throats without firing a gunshot to avoid any alert during the attack.

Ngorongoro is a farming community and 13 kilometres southeast of Maiduguri, the state capital.

According to an eyewitness who is a member of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), Bukar Modu, the insurgents disguised as farmers returning from a farm on bicycles before they commenced chasing people with dangerous weapons into various directions of the village in the afternoon.

“We thought that these people on bicycles are our neighbours returning from their farmlands; but on reaching the village square, they started chanting God is great in Arabic; and commenced chasing every villager in sight. Some of us were caught and they tied their hands to the back before they were killed. But some of the villagers fled through the eastern flank of the village for safety while others fled to Maiduguri, 13 kilometres northwest of this village,” said Modu, who fled to Maiduguri to alert the soldiers stationed near Giwa Barracks.

He said the insurgents sneaked into the village through the northern flank of Konduga Local Council of Sambisa Forest because most of the Boko Haram camps have been destroyed by the military in the ongoing Operation Lafiya Dole.

The Borno State Police Command yesterday in Maiduguri confirmed the village attack, stating that the fleeing insurgents attacked one of the villages on the shores of Alau Dam.

“The Boko Haram suspects are using every crooked means to flee the forest by attacking soft targets of villages that have no security personnel. This is what happened to Ngorongoro village, near Kayamla,” said the police source yesterday.
