THE alleged killer of late human rights crusader, Kunle Fadipe, Oluwaseun Oladapo, will today open his defence in an ongoing trial before Justice Atinuke Ipaye of a Lagos High Court sitting in Ikeja.

Justice Ipaye had adjourned opening of the defence till today after the testimony of the sixth prosecution witness, Inspector James Adetoye.

At the resumed hearing of the matter yesterday, the prosecution counsel led by Assistant ‎Director of State Prosecution, Mr. Jide Martins, told ‎the court that he has closed his case after the testimony of the sixth witness.

Inspector Adetoye, in his evidence, told the court that during investigation, the photograph of the deceased was taken by the CID’s Forensic Department at the scene of the crime.

He, however, tendered the photograph as part of the evidence against the defendant, and the court admitted it as Exhibit P14.

When cross-examined by the defendant counsel, Walter Oduagbaka, the witness told the court that deceased did not have any pellet wound on him but rather had several knife wounds. He also confirmed that no pellet wound was extracted from his body.

He also told the court that the defendant was shot in the leg by the estate’s security guards and not the police as speculated when he was trying to overpower them.

The witness also said that the defendant’s right was read to him before his statement was taken, and he thump-printed on the statement after it was written and read to him in Yoruba.

He then affirmed that Oluwaseun was not in pain when he gave his statement as alleged.
“The defendant was taken to our clinic for treatment and he was okay before the statement was taken from him”, Adetoye said.
