Suspended Anambra JUSUN strike: Lawyer lauds Obiano’s intervention

A lawyer, Mr Pat Agbata, on Saturday lauded Gov. Willie Obiano of Anambra for intervening in the strike embarked upon by the state chapter of Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN).

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that JUSUN, Anambra Chapter called off the strike on May 26 with litigants heaving a sigh of relief.

Speaking with newsmen at Ogidi near Onitsha, Agbata noted that part payment made to JUSUN members facilitated the calling off of the strike.

Agbata, who is the provost of Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), Idemili Chapter, said the courts as the temple of justice should not for any reason be shut down.

“When the court is shut down it gives room for anarchy because there will be lawlessness in the society,’’ he said.

He also lauded Obiano for his security policy framework that had chased away criminals out of the state and created enabling atmosphere for investors.

NAN reports that JUSUN had embarked on the strike following the non-implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) it reached with the government’s negotiating team headed by Deputy Gov. Nkem Okeke.

The MoU included the payment of the workers’ salary, overhead costs and capital vote into the account of the state judiciary as part of efforts to establish its autonomy.
