Suswam declares support for Ortom’s amnesty offer




IMMEDIATE past governor of Benue State Gabriel Suswam has stated that he is in full support of the amnesty programme offered by Governor Samuel Ortom’s administration as it is capable of bringing peace in the state .

The Guardian recalls that Governor Ortom has granted amnesty to people with arms and ammunitions to surrender them in exchange for some monetary compensation.

Suswam, who made the indication at the weekend during the burial of his political godfather, Chief Atoza Hindan, however, advised the present administration not to use the programme as a means to oppress its perceived opponents in the state.

“The insecurity in the state has remain a cause for concern, even with the increased security votes to over N300 million monthly. With this, it is my hope that the state will be well secure and focused in addressing this disturbing issue using security agencies,” the former governor added.

Meanwhile, the Managing Director, Bank of Agriculture (BoA) Prof. Danbaba Danju, has stressed the need for the Federal Government to provide the needed infrastructure to accelerate agricultural value chain in the country.

Danju, who made the call while presenting a paper on “Financing Agricultural Value Chain” in Makurdi at the Exporter Enlightenment Forum organised by NEXIM Bank; maintained that the development of key infrastructure like roads, water and rail lines, construction of silos, dams and irrigation facilities would in no small measure boost agricultural activities in the country.

He said for agricultural commodities to attract commensurate returns on investments, the government needed to finance semi processing activities for the purpose of value addition.

Suswam, who regretted that lives and properties of the citizens in the state have become very unsafe, further condemned the act as unacceptable and called on all meaning people of the state, including traditional rulers to braze up to the challenge.
