Tambuwal orders payment of scholarship grant to state indigenes
SOKOTO State Governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has ordered the immediate payment of scholarship grant to all indigenes of the state studying in various schools worldwide.
This, according to a statement issued by his spokesman, Malam Imam Imam, is in fulfillment of the present administration’s promise to uplift the standard of education in the state.
It said approval has already been granted to release the sum of N387,990,012.00 for students studying in schools in Europe, America, Asia and some African countries, excluding Uganda, Sudan, Niger Republic and Bangladesh.
The statement said for payment to students in the four countries, a verification committee has been set up to ascertain the actual number of students there and the institutions they are attending.
The government has also set aside the sum of N503,590,856,00 for payment to Sokoto indigenes studying in schools across Nigeria. However, a verification exercise to determine the number of beneficiaries of the state scholarship in schools the country will be undertaken with a view to include them in the new biometric data system, after which payment will be made.
