Former Speaker of the House of Representatives and Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal, has admonished able-bodied youths to strive to be self-reliant rather than be dependent on white-collar jobs.

Tambuwal, who spoke while endorsing the Nigerian Student and Youth Corps Discount Card scheme, enjoined youths not to lose hope in the struggle to better their lot in the face of the economic recession in the country.

Stating that the discount card could not have been introduced at a better time, he acknowledged that the initiative was in line with ongoing quest to empower the youth in the country.

The card, known as Naija Green Card, is specifically designed for students of tertiary institutions and youth corps members to provide discounts for various goods and services for cardholders across the country.

Applauding the initiative, Tambuwal said: “This is a highly commendable initiative that will benefit our students and youth corps members. Initiatives like this have a very big role to play in the development of states and individuals.

“It is for these reasons that as a government, we call on our students from senior secondary 111 and tertiary institutions to take up membership of the card.”

The initiator of the scheme, Biambo Daramola, awho is a former member of the House, explained that the idea was to ease financial burden on parents and guardians of students and corps members.
