THE Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) Taraba State chapter has decried the non-promotion of its members by the Governor Darius Dickson Ishaku-led administration in the state.

The state Chairman of the union, Aliyu Jauro Mafindi, stated this yesterday in Jalingo, the state capital at the occasion of the 2015 World Teachers Day.

He said that teachers were the “only categories of workers that suffer such untold hardship in the state.” Implementing the promotion, he said, would put smiles on the faces of teachers in the state.

According to him: “Quite a number of our teachers got only promotion on paper without the reciprocal financial benefits which is pathetic and unfortunate.”

They appealed to the governor to order the immediate payment of the arrears of salary for primary school teachers in the state.

Also, Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) has advocated immediate implementation of pending teachers’ promotion and release of fund for leave grant of workers in Kano as panacea to improved performance.

Besides, the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Teachers in the state want the state government to invest more on capacity building of teachers in Kano particularly the primary and post primary schools teachers to keep them in tune with modern teaching techniques and methodology in their field of learning.
