Tragedy struck, yesterday, in Jalingo, the Taraba State capital.

Five persons were killed following a rainstorm that left several others injured.

The incident, which occurred at the early hours, also destroyed buildings at the Taraba State University, the State Specialist Hospital, and the School of Nursing and Midwifery, among others.

Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee of the hospital, Dr. Dashe Dasogot, said the five corpses were brought to the mortuary after the storm that lasted several hours.

Dasogot said four of the victims died when a telecommunications mast hit them.

An eyewitness told The Guardian that three of her cousins were among the dead.

The storm rendered many in the town homeless.

At the chapel of St. Thomas Aquinas, near the university, the Reverend Father and seven worshippers sustained injuries and are currently receiving treatment.
