Members of Lagos State Task Force, yesterday, cleared illegal trading activities beside Babatunde Raji Fashola Railway Station, Agege and burnt down the entire place.

The market sprang up after those selling electronics, beds, chairs and all kinds of wares by the sides of the rail at Agege were earlier sent packing from the railway line for safety reasons.

Members of the Task Force that came with two fire fighter vehicles with plate number LR023LA and EKY338XY were accompanied by armed police officers to ward off any unexpected confrontation.

The incident spread from the Railway Station to Guinness Brewery at Mangoro, leading to unusual traffic, which extended to Isokoko Police Station and environs.

When The Guardian reached out to the leader of the team, he declined to comment on the issue.

A middle-aged man, who witnessed the incident simply identified as “Doctor”, said the traders were given notice but they took the government for granted.

“Members of the task force arrived very early and the traders unawares.

“Some of the traders used the market as a cover up to perpetrate crimes at night. Once stolen items enter the market, they became unrecoverable.

“There is a need to bring sanity to the area because many of the traders constitute a security threat to the residents of this area.

“I give kudos to the government for being security conscious,” he said.
