.Reps lament resurgence of terrorists in Borno, Yobe
Terrorists have again killed five persons and kidnapped five others during an attack on Sayaya community in Matazu Local Council of Katsina State.
The incident, which occurred on Monday night, was less than 24 hours after dozens of people were killed and several others abducted by terrorists in Musawa Local Council.
Following the Musawa incident, the state governor, Dr. Dikko Radda, had visited the council where he commiserated with families of the affected victims.
Musawa and Matazu councils share same border, and are among the local councils facing incessant attacks by terrorists and related criminals.
Spokesperson for the Police Command in the state, ASP Abubakar Aliyu, confirmed the Matazu incident in a statement yesterday.
The statement said: “On November 6, 2023, at about 0055 hours, armed bandits in their numbers, wielding dangerous weapons, such as AK-47 rifles, and shooting sporadically, attacked Sayaya village in Matazu Local Council, Katsina State.
“Upon receipt of the report, operatives were immediately mobilised to the scene, where they engaged the bandits in a gun duel and succeeded in repelling the attack.
“However, five people were shot dead, two injured, and five people kidnapped by the assailants. The injured were rushed to the hospital for immediate medical attention.
“The Commissioner of Police, Katsina State Command, while condoling with the families of those affected by the attack, urged members of the public with information that will aid the investigation to come forward and assist the investigation as efforts are being intensified to ensure the unhurt rescue of the kidnapped victims and the arrest of the perpetrators of the dastardly act as the investigation proceeds.”
Meanwhile, members of the House of Representatives, yesterday, expressed concerns over resurgence of Boko Haram terrorists in Borno and Yobe states.
The resolution was passed sequel to the adoption of a motion of urgent national importance on the ‘need for urgent military intervention and rescue of missing farmers of Koshebe, Karkut and Bulabilin in Jere Mafa Local Council attacked by Boko Haram terrorists’, as well as attack on some villages in Geidam Local Council of Yobe State, sponsored by Ahmed Satomi and Shettima Ali.
To this end, the House mandated the Army to immediately mobilise troops to the affected areas to neutralise the terrorists and restore normalcy to the villages.
In the same vein, the House mandated Nigerian military to fortify security in Geidam and Yunusarilocal councils of Yobe State, with a view to secure the communities and forestall future attacks.
The Speaker, Tajudeen Abbas, who presided over the plenary, mandated the joint committees on Army and Disaster and Emergency Preparedness to ensure compliance.
