• ‘30 Plateau indigenes killed in Kwara attack, 500 stranded’
No fewer than four persons were killed by terrorists yesterday in separate attacks in Kogi and Plateau States.
Three people were confirmed dead following an attack by bandits, who kidnapped and rustled cattle in the Garga community, Kanam Local Council of Plateau State. Also, a 50-year-old man, Musa Kimono, was killed by gunmen at his residence in Oketecheje, Idah Local Council of Kogi State.
This was as the Deputy Chairman of Riyom Local Council of Plateau, Gwong Song, disclosed that 30 Plateau indigenes were killed and over 500 left stranded following a recent terrorist attack on Woro community in Kwara State.
The Plateau attack occurred on Monday night, when armed bandits invaded the community, opened fire on residents, and rustled many cattle.
The assailants also reportedly carried out a kidnapping during the incident, leaving many families in distress.
With three confirmed dead as of yesterday morning, the injured were receiving treatment at the General Hospital in Dengi and surrounding medical facilities.
SOURCES from Kimono’s family confirmed that three unidentified gunmen on a motorcycle stormed the compound to carry out the attack about 8.30 pm last Thursday night.
The family source described the attack as “an unprovoked political assassination”.
The Guardian learnt that the incident had been reported to the police in Idah Area Command.
However, the Kogi State Police Command could not be reached for confirmation, as the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Saliu Afusat, did not pick up her calls.
The Kwara attack, which occurred on February 3, 2026, left over 160 people dead and many others injured or
abducted.
Speaking with newsmen in Jos yesterday, the deputy chairman lamented the devastating effect of the attack on their people, describing the situation as very painful.
He said: “For now, the number of persons displaced so far is 707. Some of them have returned home, but some of them are still there, stranded. We have about 200 who have returned home. As a council, the chairman has done wonderfully. He has sent at least N3 million for them to get a vehicle so that they can come home.
“Those who have returned are managing to put up with their loved ones. As it is right now, we are going to have a meeting with the executive chairman regarding that because we are going to organise a special day for those who lost their lives.”
