The Guardian bags ARTru Awards

In recognition of its contribution to the development and promotion of Arts in the country, the convener of ARTru concert and awards yesterday honoured The Guardian as the best newspaper in the Distinguished Press Award.

Other newspapers nominated in the print category include Business Day, The Nation, This Day and Arts & Artists Magazine.

Convener of the event, Mr Nkang Inidan noted that the imperative of Arts to the development of the country could not be overemphasized.
 
He urged the government to invest in Arts because it has more returns on investment than oil and gas. He said oil may dry up one day but Arts would keep springing up.

President, Society of Nigerian Arts, Muhammed Suleiman said in Nigeria, art connects cultural commodities in a way that not many other things can. He said Art generates money but also holds significant sentiment and cultural values within its communities.
